Literary Escapism is hosting a challenge to read authors that are new to you in 2009. It sounds like fun; I’m in. The recommended 50 new-to-you authors sounded like a lot, until I counted my 2008 new-to-me authors and came up with 64, fiction only. When I find an author I like, I tend to read everything they write, so I figured that wouldn’t leave enough to time to read that many new authors too, but apparently it does. I’ll take the 50 author challenge, and I’m going to post the list in the sidebar as I read them. I’ll also include highlights of new authors in my semi-yearly reading posts.
If anyone else wants to join in the fun challenge, I’d love to see your lists. I’m starting 2009 with 2 new authors. I’m reading Susan Isaacs’s “Magic Hour” and listening to Barbara Kingsolver’s “Prodigal Summer”. It’s true I did listen to Kingsolver last year, but that was non-fiction, so I’m counting her in this year’s total.
Last year I discovered such wonderful authors as Lisa Jackson, Neil Gaiman, Lisa Scottoline, Laura Lippman, Chelsea Cain, Allison Brennan, Leslie Langry, Ed Gaffney, Kristan Higgins . . . I’m looking forward to new discoveries for 2009.

What a great idea. I may just have to jump on the bandwagon. I’ve challenged myself to read more outside my typical comfort zone and this will fit right in.

Sounds like that could be fun! On my way to check out your Good Reads for ideas.

Oh, that’s a fun way to do it. Pick new authors from friends on Good Reads when you get stuck. I like it!
