Pam Tagged Me Wild Kingdom
May 27

Because historically we were past the risk of frost, I planted this weekend. Veggies are being bought tomorrow, so they’re not in the ground yet, but I’ve got the following done (pictures when things start to bloom more):

  • hanging baskets up (torenia for the sunny spot and streptocarpus for the shade)
  • planters on the deck filled (hot pink geraniums with bright green traily plants)
  • butterfly bushes (bi-color - so bright when they bloom!)
  • a new peony (thanks to neighbors who didn’t want it anymore)
  • herbs (basil, parsley, lavender, orange thyme, and purple sage are new, chives, oregano, lavender, thyme, rosemary, mint, lemon verbena, dill, and cilantro are perennial or freely re-seed)
  • a few annuals in the ground (same geraniums and traily things, plus reddish-orange begonias in the shady front yard)
  • roses fed

They’re predicting frost tonight.

Hope they all make it through the night.

They should. But I’ll have to bring the hanging baskets and potted plants into the house, just in case. And try to keep Lila out of them. The stuff in the ground should be okay, and if it’s not, at least it’s not too many plants. Maybe I’ll throw a blanket over the main part of the bed in back, just in case.

And you’ll be posting photos soon? Please?

By the way, Lila emailed me and asked if I could remind you to plant catnip. That way she wouldn’t get into the other stuff too much.

My irises are this close (I’m sure you can picture my hand gesture here - no, its not obscene!) to blooming. When they do I’ll take pictures again. Actually, by then the peonies should be blooming too. Other stuff will still take a while.

And you might want to email Lila back and remind her that she’s an indoor kitty. I’m not comfortable with an outdoor cat in this neighborhood, besides which, George would probably eat her anyway. And the neighbor grows catnip and is happy to share.
