Prologue - In Words

Now, normally I don’t believe in using prologues, but in this case, the camera was not handy for the initial meeting.

Lila enjoyed watching the neighborhood go by now that the weather was warm enough to have the inside door open in the evenings. She was, by nature, a very curious kitten, and often tilted her head at George as he walked through the front yard.

George, on the other hand, didn’t much care about the weather, and could be found prowling around the neighborhood even in the dead of winter. Still, the going was easier with no snow on the ground. He enjoyed this front yard quite frequently, but had not noticed that gray and white cat on the other side of the storm door before today. He stepped up to get a closer look.

George and Lila were separated by less than 1/4″ of glass. George was unflappable, and just gave Lila a ho-hum sort of look. Lila was much less sure of the situation. She hunkered down and flattened her ears to her head. She backed up a few inches, keeping her eyes trained on the newly arrived stranger. Her curiosity won out, though, so she moved closer and quickly warmed up to George.
